RULES AND REGULATIONS

RIDE FOR RATIONS (RfR) 2023

Registration is subject to the acceptance of the Rules and Regulations contained herein and compliance with any additional governmental/regulatory directives that may be imposed upon Ride for Rations 2023 (hearinafter, also referred to as “the event”).

Section 1: General Rules

  1. Ride for Rations 2023 will be held in two formats. Individuals may choose to participate in one or both formats as described below:
    1. Format 1: Melaka-Singapore edition from 1-3 Sep 2023. Ride from Melaka to Singapore (about 245km) with two overnight stays in designated hotels.
      1. Day 1 (1 Sep 2023): Depart Singapore for Melaka via charted bus/other transport arrangements.
      2. Day 2 (2 Sep 2023): Ride from Melaka to Batu Pahat.
      3. Day 3 (3 Sep 2023): Ride from Batu Pahat to Singapore
    2. Format 2: A Virtual edition
      1. Participants may choose to complete a minimum of 200 km, 580 km or 1,000 km within the month of September 2023.
      2. Participants can opt to cycle indoors on their trainers or outdoors
      3. This edition is based on an honour system. Bike-Aid (Singapore) may conduct periodic verification of submissions for accuracy
      4. Participants are required to join the Ride for Rations Strava Club (https://www.strava.com/clubs/RideforRations) and submit their cycling logs using the Strava app.
  2. Ride for Rations 2023 is first and foremost, a fund-raising event.
    1. Participants are expected to raise funds for the nominated cause in order to be eligible to participate in either format.
    2. The cost of food rations has gone up: a set of food rations now costs $75 whilst a set of breakfast rations costs $30.
    3. Raising a minimum sum of SGD500 is a prerequisite for participation in the Melaka-Singapore edition.
    4. Participants who can assist in raising funds from corporations or organisations can contact the Organising Committee; funds raised successfully through this avenue may be considered as part of your fund-raising efforts.
  3. The Organising Committee reserves the right to amend or adjust the rules and regulations of Ride for Rations 2023 without prior notice to participants.
  4. All participants are required to read, understand and follow the stipulated rules and regulations, event signs and directions, and verbal instructions given to them during the course of Ride for Rations 2023.
  5. Participants are advised to check the BikeAid (Singapore) website (bikeaid.org.sg) and the Bike-Aid (Singapore) & Ride for Rations regularly for any updates or amendments with regards to event instructions and information.
  6. The Organising Committee, and related sponsors, officials and other staff, will not be held responsible for the cancellation of Ride for Rations 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances, e.g. weather conditions, travel restrictions and, or government advisories, etc.
  7. All participants of the Melaka-Singapore edition are required to attend the pre-event briefing.
  8. All participants are encouraged to be involved in the distribution of rations between the months of April and September. This will give participants the opportunity to see where the funds go to and meet some of the beneficiaries of the fund-raising effort.
  9. Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are able and eligible to travel to Malaysia e.g. compliance with Covid-19-related entry requirements (having relevant vaccination certification and associated apps) and immigration and customs rules e.g. valid passport, pre-departure documentation and visa.

 

Section 2: Participation

  1. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and subject to a maximum capacity as determined by the Organising Committee
  2. The Organising Committee reserves the right to accept or reject participation in Ride for Rations 2023.
  3. All participants must be 21 years old and above for the Melaka-Singapore edition.
    1. Participants under 21 years old are required to be:
      1. Evaluated for road cycling competency
      2. Supervised by an assigned and responsible adult when cycling, preferably the parent or guardian
  4. All participants must raise funds for the cause as stated in Section 1.
  5. All participants must pay a registration fee of:
    1. Melaka-Singapore edition:
      1. S$310 nett (twin-sharing) or
      2. S$380 nett (single room).
    2. Virtual edition:
      1. SGD 30 (T-shirt option)
      2. SGD 50 (Jersey option)
  6. The registration fees above excludes fees that may arise from use of the registration portal and online payment gateway(s).
  7. Participants must top up any additional costs that may arise from travel measures put in place by the relevant government authorities subsequent to the launch of the registration in March 2023, such as, but not limited to, COVID-19 pre-departure and on-arrival tests.
  8. Participants who opt for twin-sharing accommodation in the Melaka-Singapore edition are to note the following:
    1. If your assigned/preferred roommate is not able to participate in Ride for Rations 2023 for any reason, the Organising Committee may re-assign another roommate. If a participant declines this reassignment of roommate which would effectively make his/her accommodation a single occupancy room, the participant must pay the difference in cost between the fees for single and twin-sharing accommodation.
    2. The above is done to minimise cost. Any cost savings can be passed to the beneficiary.
  9. In registering, each participant certifies that he/she is physically and mentally fit to complete Ride for Rations 2023 and is not suffering from any medical (physical and/or mental) condition whatsoever, which would inhibit his/her completion of the event.
  10. Participants must also ensure that they possess a reasonable level of cycling proficiency that will allow them to complete Ride for Rations 2023 successfully and safely including cycling in groups.
    1. The participant is responsible for ensuring his/her physical readiness for the demands of the ride in the chosen format
    2. The participant is responsible for having himself/herself certified at his/her own cost by a qualified and Singapore-registered medical doctor that he/she is medically fit for such an event should he/she have medical issues that arise after registration and up to the start of Ride for Rations 2023.
  11. First-time participants are required to attend a sharing session on the purpose of Ride for Rations, which will be conducted at one of the rations distribution venues before their registration can be confirmed. This sharing may also be conducted online or recorded.
  12. First-time participants or others, as determined by the Organising Committee, must attend a readiness assessment session involving cycling at least 80 km on the road. This will likely be conducted in July 2023. Alternatively, they can submit data from apps like Strava that demonstrate regular long-distance on-road cycling of at least a 100 km distance per ride or a cumulative distance of 150 km over 2-3 rides, completed in the month of July 2023. This assessment is for formative purposes, to ensure their physical readiness to participate in Ride for Rations 2023.
  13. Participants are required to adhere to traffic rules and regulations at all times during Ride for Rations 2023, for their safety. They are required to follow instructions and cycle in a single or double rank as per road traffic rules and regulations, including those governing the use of cycling paths such as the Park Connector Network (PCN). Overtaking of the lead cyclist is strictly not allowed as is grabbing of refreshments from support crew whilst cycling.
  14. Participants have obligations to themselves and to others to act safely and comply with all Rules and Regulations.
  15. The Organising Committee reserves the right to disqualify any participant who poses a safety hazard to himself/herself and/or others. He/she will not be allowed to continue and no refunds will be made.

 

Section 3: Registration

  1. All registration will be done online through our official event website accessible through bikeaid.org.sg.
  2. Incomplete registration or registrations which contain incorrect or fraudulent information will be deemed invalid and rejected. Such registrations will be invalidated without any refunds.
  3. Closing date for the registration is 30 May 2023. If the maximum capacity for Ride for Rations 2023 is reached before the closing date, the online registration will be closed.
  4. All participants should receive a confirmation email verifying the successful registration at least one week before the commencement of Ride for Rations 2023. Additional details can be found on our website.
  5. Participants agree to have any un-utilised registration fees donated to the cause supported by Ride for Rations 2023.
  6. Refund Conditions
    1. If a participant withdraws, there will be no refund of the registration fees. However, he/she can nominate a replacement, if the withdrawal is made prior to 1 August 2023. The replacement must meet all the criteria laid out in the Rules and Regulations and be approved by the Organising Committee. Provision of jersey for the replacement is not guaranteed and is subject to the timeline and processes stipulated by the jersey supplier. No replacement is permitted after 1 August 2023.
    2. All registration fees less expenses incurred for Ride for Rations 2023 up to the point of withdrawal in the above condition, will be donated to the cause supported by Ride for Rations 2023.
    3. Such a participant is responsible for submitting any funds raised to the Organising Committee.
    4. Should Ride for Rations 2023 be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather, natural calamities, political unrest, etc, registration fees less expenditure incurred up to the point of the cancellation will be donated to the cause. In this case, the amount will be counted as part of the participant’s fundraising.
  7. (For Virtual edition) If participants wish to change their event category (200 km, 580 km or 1,000 km), they must inform the Organising Committee before 15 August 2023.

Section 3A: Collection of data

  1. Participants agree and give their consent that the Organising Committee may receive, collect, store, access, use and disclose the information for the purposes set out below and acknowledge that it is reasonable for the Organising Committee to so act in relation to such purposes in the given circumstances:
    1. for the purposes of facilitating and/or enabling good governance, record-keeping, administration, research, surveys, analysis, evaluation, risk or other management reasons;
    2. for the purposes of facilitating and/or obtaining the required or necessary approvals, permits or licences from, or filings or reportings, or other formalities of whatever nature to or with the relevant authorities or regulators and other parties, in relation to Ride for Rations 2023, before, during or after Ride for Rations 2023
    3. for the purpose of obtaining goods and services to support Ride for Rations 2023
    4. for the purposes of facilitating and/or enabling staff on hand during or after Ride for Rations 2023 to provide or procure evacuation, transport, medical or hospital treatments and care to the participant in case of accident or illness, and that such Information is not intended to be a waiver (whether in whole or in part) of the terms and conditions of this Agreement.
  2. Participants unconditionally grant the Organising Committee the right to photograph, film, videotape record and/or otherwise reducing into material form, participants and further, to use participants’ name, likeness, pose, voice, statements, appearance (including any performance of any activities), any biographical material concerning the participant and any reproductions or adaptations thereof, and the edit of the same in connection with Ride for Rations 2023 in whole or in part, without restriction or limitation and for an unlimited number of times, in or through any and all media formats. Participants shall not at any time object to or raise any claim against the Organising Committee for such usage of the performance.

 

Section 4: Attire & Safety

  1. For the Melaka-Singapore edition, participants are required to wear the Ride for Rations 2023 jersey on day 1 and are strongly encouraged to wear it on day 2 for easy identification. As an alternative, participants can wear Ride for Rations jerseys of previous editions on day 2.
  2. Participants must wear a helmet properly when cycling in Ride for Rations 2023, including training rides.
  3. Participants are to have appropriate front (white) and rear (red) bicycle lights.
  4. Participants are required to be in the appropriate footwear at all times during Ride for Rations 2023.
  5. Participants are required to adhere to safety and directional related instructions given during the actual ride or during training rides.
  6. The Organising Committee reserves the right to stop any participant who poses a safety risk and threat to himself/herself/themselves and/or others from continuing his/her/their participation in Ride for Rations 2023.
  7. No changes to the size of the Ride for Rations 2023 jersey/t-shirt are allowed upon the order placement of the jersey/t-shirt and receipt of the jersey/t-shirt. We will adhere strictly to the size that participants indicated on the registration form or provided to the Organising Committee.

 

Section 5: Provision of equipment

  1. Participants must use their own bicycles during Ride for Rations 2023 and on training rides.
  2. In the interest of safety, tri bikes, tandem bikes, fixies and recumbent bikes are not permitted for use at Ride for Rations 2023. Please contact the Organising Committee for clarifications on this matter prior to registration.
  3. Participants have to bring along personal items for their own well-being and comfort on the event day, e.g. sunblock, sunglasses, cap, seat padding, water bottles, etc.
